The Jews Of Color Caucus
Another new, America-hating, Jew-hating arm of the Left.
Earlier this month, the Jews of Color Caucus (JOCC) was founded as a partner organization of Jewish Voice for Peace. The latter, which was established two decades ago, is a proudly socialist group that supports widespread divestment from Israel as a means of crippling the Jewish state economically, as punishment for the “apartheid” policies it supposedly imposes on the Palestinian people.
Like Jewish Voice for Peace, JOCC divides the world into neatly defined categories of oppressors and victims. The oppressors are white Americans and Israeli Jews; the victims are black Americans and Palestinian Arabs. The U.S. and Israel alike, says JOCC, are awash in “state-sponsored racism” against blacks and Palestinians, respectively. Having “witnessed our cultures destroyed and appropriated in service to the white supremacism and settler militarism that are at the basis of zionism,” JOCC has no tolerance for “centrist” Jews who fail to embrace the organization’s uncompromising anti-American, anti-Israel message.
JOCC proudly professes to be “in solidarity and co-resistance” with the Movement for Black Lives, the Marxist, racialist agenda that was spelled out in early August by Black Lives Matter (BLM). Rooted in a commitment to eternal grievance and black racism, that agenda includes demands for “an end to the war against Black people” in the United States; an end to “the criminalization, incarceration, and killing” of African Americans by white police officers; the payment of financial reparations “for past and continuing harms” inflicted upon blacks nationwide; and a massive restructuring of U.S. tax codes to ensure “a radical and sustainable redistribution of wealth,” from whites to blacks.
“As a caucus we fully endorse the Movement for Black Lives Platform in its entirety without reservation,” says JOCC, calling upon the American Jewish community “to defend BLM activists” from the “backlash” of “a white supremacist power structure that is trying to maintain the status quo.” In its effort to “push for change across the country and around the world,” JOCC “honors and celebrates” BLM and “the many modes of resistance” it has pursued to protest incidents where African Americans have been “slain by police” or “killed in police custody.” Demanding that “those responsible for these killings … be held accountable,” JOCC argues that all black people “have reasonable fear of police in this country, and we reject attempts to trivialize this justified fear.”
On the premise that “Israeli state violence has long targeted Black lives alongside Palestinians,” JOCC contends that Jewish organizations, even if they support BLM, unwittingly “fail Black people” if they refrain from publicly criticizing Israel. Indeed, says JOCC, Jewish groups have a moral duty to speak out against “Israeli anti-Black racism and settler colonialism”; to condemn the “genocidal” variations of “violence experienced by Palestinians and by Black people at the hands of the state”; and to bring attention to Israel’s “culture of extrajudicial killings” and “mob brutality.”
JOCC is a staunch supporter of the U.S. Prison Divestment movement, which views the American criminal-justice system as a racist enterprise designed to railroad innocent blacks into prison cells. JOCC also backs the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, a Hamas-inspired initiative that aims to use various forms of public protest, economic pressure, and court rulings to advance the Hamas agenda of permanently destroying Israel as a Jewish nation-state.
At its inception, JOCC explicitly issued a demand calling for American Jews to refrain from the supposedly racist act of criticizing “the Black Lives Matter Platform and U.S. Palestine solidarity.” It also exhorted the Jewish community to “end its legitimization of U.S. and Israeli state-violence, police militarization, and violence through its role in promoting and organizing police exchange programs that directly contribute to violence against Black and Brown people in the U.S., Palestinians, and Jews of Color.” Moreover, JOCC urged “the mainstream U.S.-based Zionist movement” to “cease the use of our [nonwhite] bodies as a moral shield for Israeli occupation” – i.e., to stop deflecting attention away from the plight of the Palestinian people, for which JOCC blames Israel entirely.
Like the political Left in general, JOCC regards the “intersectionality” of all alleged oppressions as an article of faith. It seeks to attract as much sympathy and support as possible for its anti-Israel agenda by echoing the themes of black and socialist organizations. The objective is to draw parallels between the various forms of victimization to which each of these constituencies claim to be subjected.
Victimization. Perpetual grievance. Identity politics. Tribalism. This is what the Jews Of Color Caucus is all about. Indeed, it’s what the Left is all about.
